■　富山県警逮捕術大会

An arrest technique competition sponsored by the Toyama Prefectural police took place in Toyama City the other day.
富山県警主催の逮捕術大会が先日富山市で開かれました。


At the opening ceremony, one of the contestants pledged to play fair and to live up to the residents’ expectations of being a strong police.’
開会式では出場者の一人が「県民の信頼に応える『強い警察』を目指し、正々堂々と戦う」と宣誓しました。


The spectators were excited at the contestants’ powerful kicks and thrusts which decided the matches one after another.
出場者が次から次へと決める豪快な蹴りや突きに会場は沸きました。

■　園児が恵方巻き作りに挑戦

The other day some kindergarteners had a chance to make an ‘ehomaki’.
先日園児たちが恵方巻作りに挑戦しました。


It’s a kind of rolled sushi. They spread vinegared rice and an omelet over a sheet of dried seaweed and rolled it carefully.
恵方巻は巻きずしの一種で、園児は海苔の上に酢飯と卵焼きを乗せ、丁寧に巻き上げました。


It is said that we can make our dreams come true by eating a whole ehomaki silently facing to the auspicious direction of that year.
その年の縁起が良い方向を向いて無言で恵方巻を丸ごと食べると、願いが叶うとされています。


The children were eating happily the ehomaki that they themselves made.
園児たちは自分で作った恵方巻をおいしそうに頬張っていました。
