■消防訓練


A practical fire-fighting drill took place using the former schoolhouse of the Toyama Fire Fighter Academy.
消防学校の旧校舎を使った実践的な訓練が行われました。

They trained the fire fighters by setting fire to the former schoolhouse to make it seem real.
訓練は、旧校舎に火をつけて、実際の火災と同じ状況の中で行ないました。

The firefighters opened the windows to let smoke out while trying to put out the fire in order to rescue people.
隊員は、消火をしながら窓をあけて煙を逃がし、救助を求める人を運び出しました。

They were engaged in the training with due care and attention.
隊員は緊張感を持って取り組んでいました。

■土用の丑の日


July 22nd is called the day of the ox: one of the 12 Japanese zodiac animals, and is supposed to be the hottest day of the summer.
今年の７月２２日は土用の丑の日です。丑は十二支のひとつで、土用の丑の日は、夏で一番暑い日であると思われています。

It has been very hot, day after day, this summer.
今年は連日暑い日が続いています。
